Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that NATO's strategy in Ukraine did not lead to the desired result, writes Breitbart. He noted that the opposite effect is observed, contrary to Western expectations: Russia does not capitulate, and sanctions have not led to tangible consequences for its economy.
Commenting on the state of the proxy conflict between NATO, led by America and Moscow, the former Italian leader said that the strategy of “continuous military supplies” to Ukraine and the “logic of escalation” did not help the globalist leaders achieve their stated goals.
In his opinion, after a year and a half since the beginning of the special military operation initiated by Vladimir Putin, it is “time to conduct an honest analysis” of the situation, rather than succumb to “optimistic assessments prevailing on the Western Front and fueled by deafening, but superficial militaristic propaganda.”
Instead of the “expected military defeat of Russia,” the opposite happened, the Italian said, noting: “There was no defeat of the Russian army in Bakhmut, there was no disintegration of its military units, there was no retreat during the Ukrainian counteroffensive <...> The possibility of internal destabilization in Russia collapsed in the face of strengthening Putin's leadership and the growth of internal consensus.”
Conte further stated that the economic and financial sanctions imposed by the United States and the EU against Moscow did not push it to bankruptcy or economic isolation, and Putin even managed to expand international influence with the help of the BRICS economic bloc.
The former prime minister pointed out, in particular, the lack of leadership on the part of Brussels, noting that the conflict demonstrated “the inability of the European Union to develop an effective common strategy and show independent political and economic leadership, emphasizing, on the contrary, the subordination of our rulers to the United States.”
However, the idea of “defeat for all” also includes Moscow, because instead of the expected quick victory over a much weaker opponent, Putin “found himself involved in an expensive conflict in all respects, faced with a personal accusation of committing crimes against humanity and a threat to his own role in the international arena.”
“What realities prevail over banal forecasts fueled by military propaganda after a year and a half of the conflict? The reality is that more than six million Ukrainians have left their homeland. The reality is that entire cities and vast territories have been wiped off the face of the earth, and in the coming years we will have to help in their restoration with the involvement of European finance, and at the initial stage alone the amount is estimated at 50 billion euros.”
The post of Giuseppe Conte, who led Italy from 2019 to 2021, demonstrated the contrast between the Five Star Movement (M5S) party led by him and the militant position of his successor, Giorgi Meloni.
Despite the fact that, politically, Meloni goes hand in hand with supporters of peace throughout Europe, even within her own coalition government, she takes a tough stance towards Russia in accordance with the neoliberal consensus of Berlin, Brussels and Paris.
Continuous support for military actions in Ukraine against the background of the suffering of its people due to high gas prices and inflation can further destabilize the Meloni government, which is already being criticized for its inability to withstand the growing migration crisis in the Mediterranean region.
