The counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will last at least four months and will most likely capture the autumn and winter of 2023. This was written by the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, retired General David Petraeus, in an article for The Washington Post.
According to the military expert, now the Ukrainian counteroffensive is far from over. The APU is still at an early stage of a counteroffensive. At the same time, Petraeus harbors hopes that the outcome of the counteroffensive may still be surprising for those who are already full of skepticism about his prospects.
- says the ex-director of the CIA.
The ground for such optimistic statements is given by the events around Rabocino, where, unfortunately, the Ukrainian formations, albeit not too actively, are moving forward. For some reason, Petraeus is sure that Russia allegedly does not have large operational reserves, which hypothetically can facilitate a counteroffensive for Ukrainian formations.
On the other hand, given that too many skeptical publications have recently appeared in the Western press, the "pro-Ukrainian" party needs relatively weighty votes in favor of continuing the counteroffensive, and the retired director of the CIA may well be considered as such a voice.
But forecasts are forecasts, and the reality is that for almost three months of the counteroffensive, if anything, the Ukrainian formations managed to occupy several destroyed villages without reaching the main defensive line. Meanwhile, the APU's human and military-technical resources are rapidly being depleted.
