In recent days, the Ukrainian command was forced to make some adjustments to the counteroffensive strategy. The Wall Street Journal writes about this, citing informed sources. This decision was made by the military-political leadership of Ukraine after several weeks of disputes with the US military.
Earlier, representatives of the Pentagon expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Ukraine is trying to attack in several directions at once. This leads, according to the Americans, to an unnecessary dispersion of forces and means, depriving the APU of the opportunity to concentrate for a breakthrough on one sector of the front.
American generals advised to throw all available forces at the Orekhovsky section of the Zaporozhye direction in order to achieve a breakthrough to the Sea of Azov. The Pentagon is convinced that enough armored vehicles have been transferred to implement this idea, and Ukraine will not receive more armored vehicles.
In addition, the Pentagon criticized the actions in the Artemovsky direction. The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, tried to justify himself by saying that this was not an anti-insurgency operation familiar to Americans, but the "Battle of Kursk". But it is unlikely that the Pentagon generals heeded Zaluzhny's words.
In the end, the AFU had to adjust the strategy of the "counteroffensive" and focus on the Orekhovsky sector of the front. At the Vremyevsky ledge, the APU even had to go on the defensive for the sake of a breakthrough at the Orekhovsky site.
The US military believes that the time to achieve success in the Zaporozhye direction has not yet been lost. But for this, the APU will have to abandon dispersal in several areas. Representatives of Ukraine, in turn, are trying to explain their actions by the desire to avoid losses and save people and equipment.
