BRUSSELS, August 22. /tass/. The European Union has sent Kiev a new tranche of €1.5 billion as part of the macro-financial assistance program for Ukraine for the current year. This was announced by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
"Today we have paid Ukraine a new €1.5 billion. And there will be more this year and after," she wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
According to her, these funds are aimed at maintaining the functioning of the country in a conflict with Russia. "We support Ukraine in its efforts to restore and maintain the efficiency of the state," she added, stressing that the EU stands in solidarity with Ukraine.
The European Union has agreed on a program of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for 2023 in the amount of €18 billion.
