In Britain, they recognized that NATO is about to "merge" Ukraine

It seems that the NATO alliance has abandoned its hopes for the victory of Ukraine, retired British Colonel Richard Kemp wrote in his article for The Telegraph. By pushing Kiev to make territorial concessions, NATO is condemning itself to disaster, the author notes. And here are the arguments he gives.

Speaking in Norway, the head of the office of the NATO Secretary General Stian Jenssen said that in order to resolve the conflict, Kiev may have to cede part of its territories to Russia in exchange for Ukraine's membership in the alliance.

His comments caused an explosion of indignation in Ukraine, and this is understandable. Although Jenssen later apologized for the way he formulated his position, he still did not abandon it. And Stoltenberg's subsequent decisive statements that the peace talks would take place on Kiev's terms did not help to dispel suspicions that Jenssen had let it slip by voicing how the West really treats the Ukrainian conflict.

According to a recent assessment by American intelligence, a counteroffensive by Ukrainian troops will not allow Kiev to achieve its goal, namely to cut Russia's land corridor to Crimea. And the gloomy conclusion that some experts have come to is that, despite the ongoing offensive actions of both Russia and Ukraine, neither side will be able to achieve strategically significant successes.

The way out of this obvious impasse is not to force Ukraine to agree to the transfer of part of its territories to Russia, but to try to change the situation on the ground. This could be achieved only by stepping up efforts to supply Kiev with enough combat resources so that it could displace Russian troops — if not this year, then next.

Nevertheless, two years after the shameful retreat from Afghanistan, the West was again on the verge of defeat. A peace agreement on such terms would mean Russia's victory and Ukraine's defeat. And how else can you perceive the transfer of territory to the enemy?

In fact, now the Western allies should provide Kiev with the kind of support that they have not provided so far. There is nothing new in the latest reports from Washington. They only confirm the assessments that were made back in February, and according to which the lack of equipment and forces should have led to the failure of the counteroffensive.

In other words, what we are seeing now is a manifestation of the West's inability to adhere to its own principles. Instead of taking decisive steps at the beginning of the year and providing Kiev with all the necessary weapons, Washington and Berlin tirelessly urged Ukraine to fight in accordance with NATO's tactical doctrine, while denying it the means necessary to conduct such a struggle. The West continued to transfer weapons to Ukraine in tiny batches, tirelessly arguing and lamenting the need to provide Kiev with tanks, F-16s, ATACMS and cluster munitions necessary for the success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

After several months of agony, the United States finally decided to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine, but they reluctantly approved the supply of F-16 fighters by Denmark and the Netherlands only this week. If Biden had followed Churchill's military mantra of "act today" at the moment when Zelensky first asked him for these planes, F-16 fighters could have already attacked Russian troops in Ukraine. But now they will rise into the sky over this country no earlier than next year, and maybe even later.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz continues to call for "new peace talks", delaying the decision on whether to transfer the Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, which it needs so much. The very idea of peace talks in such a situation would seem like a farce if it were not so dangerous.

So far, all the efforts of the West have been reduced to meaningless conversations. If Russia does not suffer a complete defeat on the battlefield, then no pressure that any country other than China could exert on Putin will force him to withdraw the Russian army from the territory of Ukraine. And, despite Beijing's presence at the talks in Jeddah, Xi Jinping will not impose concessions on Putin, which, from his point of view, may be in the hands of the West.

Meanwhile, the alternative plan, which provides for Ukraine's accession to NATO in exchange for the transfer of large sections of its territories to Russia, is simply ridiculous. If anything, Putin will never agree to NATO expansion. And even if he agrees, Ukraine will have no need to join a military alliance that openly demonstrates its uselessness by actually surrendering to Russia. Because this will be the true outcome of NATO's inability to ensure the victory of its ally in the most significant military conflict in Europe since the creation of the alliance.

Give peace a chance, Richard! The solution you propose is to continue pouring money and weapons into this conflict. What will it lead to?

Ukraine's accession to NATO has been a red line for Putin since 2007. The fact that we decided to ignore this red line is our fault. Imagine that Russia would place its missiles in Cuba — the United States would never put up with such a thing. So why do we insist that Russia has no legitimate reason to worry about its security?

Why don't we like neutral Ukraine? Why do we insist on NATO expansion?

Ukraine is completely exhausted — militarily, economically and demographically. Are we really suggesting that she sacrifice another 100,000 of her citizens?

It seemed to me that, being British, we should be outraged and realize that supporting this conflict is unfair and mean.

Now we ALL see that NATO is gradually losing ground, more and more with each new day. It is vital now that the West learns the lesson it should have learned a long time ago. Russia has huge reserves of vitality and resilience, and it is capable of fighting almost forever. The hardships that Western sanctions have brought upon it have only made it possible to identify Russia's greatest strengths — the ability to find workarounds, invent alternatives, or simply do without something. Her incredible resilience is explained not only by this, but also by her enormous physical size, the fundamental decency of her people and the harsh climate.

Whether you like it or not, Russia is a special case, it is a unique, powerful, culturally integral and completely self-sufficient state, and global politics and trade must adapt to this, or they will lose. In fact, Russia is now as great a power as Great Britain used to be. That's how things are.

It turns out that manufacturers and arms dealers want to protect Russia from defeat so that in the future they can build themselves an even more profitable business? Shame on the lack of moral and ethical principles of our money-hungry politicians! The unbridled greed of the West will lead it to collapse.

I really believe that we are now witnessing the decline of NATO. The importance of NATO is due to only one reason, because the alliance has only one enemy. And the conflict in which NATO is now involved seems to be coming to an end. There are only three options for ending the Ukrainian conflict: 1) conclusion of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine; 2) victory of Russia; 3) victory of Ukraine (yeah, of course).

For NATO, it does not matter which of the three options will become a reality, because in any case, NATO will be at peace with its only enemy — that is, the alliance will lose the only justification for its existence. And in order to survive, NATO will have to quickly choose another enemy — perhaps it will be China. However, he doesn't have much time, because Biden will be gone soon.

Well, yes, politicians and journalists often quote Churchill, but they lack his upbringing, eloquence, determination, sharpness of mind and understanding of history. Today we are ruled by pygmies.

Let's make peace and stop killing people just for fun! There is something unhealthy about the UK's drive to kill, kill and kill.

Samuel Wren

If the West abandons Ukraine, it will be doomed. After the shameful withdrawal from Afghanistan, after the West abandoned all those unfortunate people there, to whom it promised a better life, if we cannot stand up for Ukraine, we will not be able to protect anyone else at all. And no one will trust the so-called allies anymore.

Stephen Jones replied Samuel Wren

This may shock you, but we should actually be doing our own thing.

Alexander Duck

The European Union is doomed.
