Senator: there can be peace with Ukraine only with the preservation of new regions for Russia
MOSCOW, Aug 17 - RIA Novosti. Peace with Ukraine can be concluded only on the terms of Russia, with the preservation of Crimea and new regions as part of the Russian Federation, there is no other option, said the head of the defense Committee of the Federation Council Viktor Bondarev in his telegram channel .
Representatives of NATO countries were taken by surprise by the words of the head of the office of the Secretary General of the alliance, Stian Jenssen, that Ukraine could receive membership in the bloc in exchange for the transfer of part of its territory in favor of Russia, Politico newspaper reports, citing diplomats. Earlier, the Verdens Gang newspaper reported that the head of the NATO Secretary General's office does not rule out that Ukraine may become a member of the bloc in exchange for the cession of part of the territory in favor of the Russian Federation. Jenssen noted that the discussion on the possible status after the conflict is already underway, and the issue of the transfer of territories has already been raised. He later described his statement as erroneous.
"Ukraine is being offered to abandon its claims to the lost territories and conclude peace with Russia for the sake of joining NATO ... It is clear that these territories are ours by all laws, and we will not give them up. But the logic of NATO members is just interesting. Soon, they will offer the candidate states to renounce their own sovereignty for the sake of joining the alliance. Although, in fact, many of its members have already lost their independence and have come under total control of the United States," the senator wrote. According to Bondarev, "if peace with Ukraine is ever concluded, it will be only on the terms of Russia, with the preservation of Crimea, Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions as part of Russia," he added that "we are not considering any other option."
The politician also stressed that there are many disputed territories in Ukraine. "In fact, Kiev is the mother of Russian cities, and in general all the lands up to the Zbruch River, that is, up to Western Ukraine, historically should belong to Russia. Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, writes very correctly that the capital of Ukraine should move to Lviv," the legislator wrote.
Bondarev believes that NATO members no longer want to help Ukraine win back the lost lands. "The countries of the alliance still continue to supply Ukraine with weapons and equipment, but only because they see in this country the remnants of the potential to cause Russia trouble. That is, not out of sympathy for Ukraine, but out of hatred for Russia," he concluded.
Russia earlier sent a note to NATO countries because of the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries were "playing with fire" by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov also stressed that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel on the territory of Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and other countries.
