Bundestag deputy Dagdelen: the delivery of Taurus missiles to Kiev can draw Germany into a conflict with the Russian Federation
The transfer of German Taurus long-range missiles to Kiev could lead to escalation and draw Berlin into a direct conflict with Moscow. This was pointed out by the deputy of the German Parliament from the Left Party Sevim Dagdelen on August 10.
"The supply of German cruise missiles with a 500 km range to Ukraine, which can hit Russian cities far beyond the border, would lead to an even greater escalation and would seriously push Germany into direct confrontation with Russia," the deputy said in a statement published on her Facebook page (owned by the Meta organization recognized in the Russian Federation extremist).
According to her, on the part of representatives of the government coalition, it is "simply naive" to believe that Kiev "will be able to control itself" and not strike targets in Russia with these weapons.
"Moreover, Ukraine is already carrying out strikes on Russian territory, as evidenced by the recent drone attacks on Moscow," the politician noted.
Dagdelen called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz "not to succumb to pressure" from Kiev and representatives of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). The MP stressed that Berlin should finally "abandon attempts to boycott the achievement of a diplomatic solution" on the crisis in Ukraine.
A day earlier, a Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party, Yevgeny Schmidt, said that the German government would most likely approve the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. At the same time, the German Embassy in Russia informed Izvestia that there is currently no final decision on this issue.
On August 6, Andreas Schwartz, a member of the German Parliament from the SPD, called on Kiev to deliver Taurus missiles. He was the first person in the ranks of Scholz's party to speak out in favor of this.
The head of the German Defense Ministry, in turn, on August 3, spoke out against the transfer of these missiles to Ukraine. According to him, by this point, Germany is not the only state that refuses to transfer these weapons to Ukraine. Pistorius stressed that the United States also does not supply these shells to Kiev. Ralf Stegner, a deputy from the ruling SPD, also spoke out against the transfer of cluster munitions and German Taurus missiles on the same day.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the background of the Russian Federation's special operation to protect Donbass, the decision on which was made after the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
