They will need from 70 to 100 copies of this weapon
NEW DELHI, August 10. /tass/. Police in the Delhi region are planning to arm snipers with Dragunov rifles to ensure security at the upcoming G20 summit in September. This was reported by The Times of India.
According to her, the metropolitan police intend to rent them from the Indian Army or other national armed formations, since they will only need 70-100 rifles for a short period of time.
In total, 250 snipers will be trained for the summit, including at least 19 female snipers for the first time. They will be on duty at the hotels where the delegations will be accommodated, as well as in places where official events will take place. They will be assisted by about 50 employees who will be assigned to conduct constant surveillance using special equipment and notify snipers of suspicious persons.
As explained in the police, their choice fell on Dragunov rifles, because they are easy to handle and maintain, as well as because of their "simplicity and reliability." "Snipers can adjust them, equip them with various target detection systems for both daytime and nighttime, depending on the tasks and the combat situation," the police representative explained.
As the publication reminds, the Indian Army is one of the largest operators of Dragunov rifles. About 7 thousand units of these small arms are in service. Earlier, the Armed Forces of the republic wanted to replace them with other models, but now it is planned to upgrade the existing rifles instead.
