The Asia-Pacific region should be free from military and political alliances, and its waters should not be used for battles. This was stated by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the ASEAN Maritime Forum, which was held in Bali on August 2. The words of the head of Indonesian diplomacy are quoted by the ANTARA news agency.
According to Marsudi, the Asia-Pacific region should not be allowed to turn into a hotbed of armed conflicts. The seas of the region should not be used to demonstrate strength, to create alliances that would ensure the dominance of some states over others.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister noted that over the past fifty years, ASEAN has acted in the interests of preventing conflict situations based on compliance with international law. But the States of the region should find their own mechanisms to regulate relations in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
It is known that the ASEAN forum was attended by 18 states, including 10 members of the organization, as well as the United States, China, Russia, India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The ASEAN organization itself includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. In addition, Papua New Guinea and East Timor have observer status in the organization.
As for the creation of military alliances in the region, the United States is doing this, trying to weaken China's position and for this blocking with Australia and the United Kingdom, as well as with Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
