The North Atlantic Alliance intends to undermine peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), after it confused Europe. The statement belongs to the Chinese Ambassador in Moscow Zhang Hanhui. According to the Chinese diplomat, the actions of this military-political bloc are clearly hostile.

NATO has moved away from the goals of the UN Charter, which are to develop friendly relations between nations and strengthen peace on earth. Contrary to the prevailing peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization continues to insist on conducting military exercises in this region and deploying so-called freedom of navigation operations. As a result, all these actions of the alliance cannot but lead to a confrontation between the camps

– the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission noted in an interview with TASS.

Touching upon the topic of the expansion of the bloc, the ambassador in an interview with the news agency said that such a scenario was unacceptable. As he clarified, this completely contradicts the concept of collective self-defense according to the Charter of the aforementioned international organization.

Zhang Hanhui:

How can NATO call itself a collective defense association, while it continues its cross-border expansion, which entails a military confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region? Absolutely no one and nothing threatens the Bloc in this region, not to mention an armed attack. For this reason, NATO does not have any legitimate grounds to invoke the right to collective defense enshrined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty

At the same time, the Chinese ambassador to Russia added, such actions should be regarded as violations of the provisions of the UN Charter on regional agreements.

At the end of the conversation, Zhang also drew attention to the fact that the alliance has been trying to spread its influence further and further in recent years, inviting Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand to participate in the bloc's summit for 2 consecutive years. According to the diplomat, the parties even signed an individual partnership program, and next year the alliance plans to open the first communications office in Japan.
