According to a study for Newsweek magazine, 34% of respondents opposed such a move
NEW YORK, August 2. /tass/. A third of Americans are in favor of sending the US military contingent to Ukraine, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Redfield & Wilton Strategies research center for Newsweek magazine.
According to the study, 31% of respondents would support sending American units to the combat zone in Ukraine. 34% of respondents opposed such a step, and the rest refrained from answering the question. The strongest support for sending US troops to the conflict zone was expressed by young Americans under the age of 26. A third of respondents over the age of 59 spoke out against this initiative, and another 25% were categorically against it. The Pentagon declined to comment on the survey results.
The study was conducted on July 25 and 26 in an online format among 1.5 thousand Americans.
Representatives of the US authorities have repeatedly stated that Washington does not intend to send a military contingent to participate in hostilities in Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine by supplying weapons and training military personnel. According to the minister, "hundreds of Western instructors are working directly on the ground, showing Ukrainians how the supplied weapons shoot."
