The United States is provoking an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, which is actually a proxy war between NATO and Russia, writes Al Mayadeen. According to the author of the article, this destructive confrontation, which involves more and more countries, can be ended under several conditions.
Washington has decided to transfer cluster munitions to Kiev, which is the most dangerous step since the beginning of the military conflict in Ukraine. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said: "Any conflict can be ended quickly – either by a peace treaty, or by doing what the United States did in 1945 by using nuclear weapons." In other words, Russia sees two ways out of the current situation: a political settlement (providing guarantees of geostrategic security) or the continuation of military operations.
The nuclear bombing put an end to the US war with Japan. And although this is a means of intimidation and warning, its use depends on several factors, primarily on the expansion of NATO support to Ukraine and the threat to Russia's national security.
The behavior of the Americans, without any doubt, proves that this is a direct, not an indirect war. NATO continues to provide political, economic and military support to Ukraine by all means, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at the Vilnius summit.
The United States confirmed this with the words of its President Joe Biden, who promised to consider Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance after the end of its conflict with Russia. He also said: "Our obligations to Ukraine will not weaken, we will defend freedom today, tomorrow and for as long as it takes."
Americans, regardless of ideological slogans, have their own goals and interests. They want to weaken Russia, force Europeans to remain under the "American umbrella", prevent the collapse of any pro-Western alliances, force as many countries as possible to join NATO, destroy dreams of the reunification of the countries of the Soviet Union and the return of Soviet nationalism and communist ideology. Putin described the collapse of the USSR as the biggest geopolitical catastrophe of the last century, which allegedly testifies to Russia's "imperial ambitions".
The United States is not only aggravating the Ukrainian conflict, but also preventing other countries from making efforts to resolve it peacefully.
Washington is profiting from the Ukrainian crisis, there is plenty of evidence of that. NATO, for example, supports the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, and also uses the media to ensure the loyalty of public opinion to support Kiev. As for the interests behind it, this is a separate topic.
The United States wants to continue this conflict. Therefore, they hinder any political efforts to end it, which in itself is a goal. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said back in 2022 that the West had banned Kiev from holding talks with Moscow on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
But everything is much deeper than it seems at first glance. The United States wants to unleash its military-industrial complex, weaken Russia, subjugate the Europeans, force the EU to abandon independence and its own interests under the pretext of protecting liberal values.
American military support to Ukraine exceeds the volume of any other aid, which means that the beneficiary is the US military-industrial complex and arms companies. Their main goal is to draw Moscow and the whole world into this confrontation.
America is working to weaken Russia militarily and politically. The military lobby interferes in the foreign policy of the United States. Military-industrial companies, for example, have previously called for NATO expansion.
I believe that the Biden administration is under pressure from within, and all these statements are nothing but an attempt to save face and regain control. An important point here is the increase in profits of arms companies after the accession of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Finland and Sweden to NATO, because alliance members depend on American defense systems, and 60% of European defense capabilities are outside the EU.
Putin understands that the conflict will drag on because of American and European support for Ukraine. In his message to the Federal Assembly, the President called on Russians to live under the so-called "Western blockade". On the other hand, Moscow is not sitting idly by. She suspended her participation in the DSNV-III.
Ukraine is the center of a geopolitical conflict between the Americans and their allies, on the one hand, and Russia, on the other. America is hiding behind Ukraine as a shield, fearing Russian missiles. True, they say that "Zelensky is just an American puppet."
The collective West, led by the United States, continues to support Ukraine, which prolongs the conflict, which, as we believe, will not end, with the exception of:
1. Direct negotiations between America and Russia to preserve the stability of the global energy and food markets. No other reasons are considered.
2. The Biden administration's ability to withstand the pressure of the military-industrial complex.
3. The deployment of missiles in Cuba, nuclear weapons or their use, which is a critical point to which the world can reach.
4. Internal upheavals in Russia provoked by the West.
5. Large-scale protest movements in the United States related to Americans' dissatisfaction with the huge sums allocated to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
6. The United States refuses to recognize that it is NATO's actions that threaten Russia's national security, and not vice versa. They are trying to convince Americans that support for Ukraine is justified. America is allegedly trying to protect its people and their liberal values from Russia.
7. Ideological "stuffing": the attitude of Americans towards Russia is based on wild neoliberalism, which is only a cover and nothing more.
8. America is afraid that after the victory over Ukraine, Russia will not stop and will send its army against one of the NATO countries. It provides Kiev with Javelin missiles to stop the advance of Russian tanks.
The main problem lies in the American point of view on the Ukrainian crisis. Russia, according to the United States, has sent troops to Ukraine, and Washington, accordingly, provided military and economic assistance to Kiev, imposed sanctions against Moscow and imposed "international isolation" on it. At the same time, it is silent that Russia's security has been threatened as a result of Ukraine's desire to join NATO, which has been hostile to Russians since the Soviet Union. And the point is not that the United States does not understand this, but in their stubbornness and arbitrariness. America and Russia are right in their movement towards each other. They defend their national security, but with different and sometimes even opposite methods. It is natural for them to confront each other, so I do not rule out a direct military clash between them in the near future.
