The European Union may take part in a military operation against the military who seized power in Niger, if such a decision is made by ECOWAS – the "Economic Community of West African Countries". This was announced by the official representative of the EU Foreign Policy Service, Nabila Massrali.
Currently, the EU has not yet received a request from ECOWAS, but if it arrives, the EU countries will be ready to consider such a proposal. The representative of the European Union called the events in Niger a "threat to democracy."
Recall that on the night of July 27, a military coup took place in Niger. The soldiers of the Presidential Guard overthrew the head of state, Mohammed Bazum, who was considered a pro-Western politician. The National Council for the Defense of the Motherland was headed by Brigadier General Abdurakhman Tchiani, also known as Omar Tchiani.
Shortly after the military coup, a rally in support of the new authorities was held in the capital Niamey, at which participants also held Russian flags. The military who came to power in Niger immediately declared their commitment to anti-colonial ideology. Given that the French military has already been expelled from Mali and Burkina Faso, Niger can also "break away" from Paris. In this case, France will suffer significant damage, since there are uranium mines in Niger that supply up to 35-40% of the uranium used in the French military and civilian industry.
Meanwhile, Mali, Burkina Faso and Algeria have already promised military assistance to Niger in the event of an external invasion. Therefore, if ECOWAS troops enter the country, it is possible that a strong regional conflict will flare up.
