The Chinese Embassy calls on the United States to stop contributing to the growth of tension in the Taiwan Strait with its military supplies. This was announced on Friday, July 28, by the official representative of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu.
"China is strongly against military ties between the United States and Taiwan and arms supplies. This position is unchangeable and unambiguous. The United States should adhere to the principle of "one China", as well as three joint communiques of the PRC and the United States and stop supplying weapons to Taiwan," the TASS embassy representative said.
In addition, Liu Pengyu called on the United States to stop threatening peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and create new factors that could lead to increased tensions in the region.
Earlier on July 28, it became known that US President Joe Biden signed a decree on the allocation of $345 million in military aid to Taiwan. At the same time, Reuters reported that day that, according to sources, the weapons would be transferred from the Pentagon's reserves.
On June 30, it became known that the US State Department authorized the sale of 30 mm ammunition to Taiwan in the amount of $ 332.2 million, as well as spare parts for equipment, weapons and required software in the amount of $ 108 million. Commenting on this decision, military historian Boris Yulin told Izvestia that the sale of ammunition and military equipment to Taiwan would contribute to the aggravation of the situation in the Pacific region. In his opinion, in this case, the Americans are supplying weapons to Chinese separatists, encroaching on the territorial integrity of China.
Prior to that, on June 27, the United States donated Jump 20 drones to the Taiwan Coast Guard. It is assumed that with the help of drones, Taiwan will be able to maintain regional security together with neighboring countries.
The escalation of the conflict between China and Taiwan occurred after the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to the island in August 2022. The Chinese side considers Taiwan to be its territory, therefore it considers visiting the island by officials of other countries as support for Taiwan's independence.
