On the occasion of the Talisman Sabre 2023 exercise, in which about 30,000 military personnel from 13 countries take part, Japan demonstrated the launch of a new RCC.
- it is said in the Air edition & Cosmos.
During the demonstration, a rocket launched from an inert warhead successfully hit an unmanned naval target off Jervis Bay Harbor, Australia.
The Type 12 coastal battery rocket was developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and initially had a range of 200 km. Japan is currently working on improving it so that it can cover distances from 900 to 1200 km. At the same time, the launch of the RCC should be carried out both from the ground, and from the sea and from the air.

It is expected that the first marine version will appear around 2027. The shape of the missile will be changed to reduce its radar visibility. It is also assumed that it will be able to receive target designation during the flight via satellite communication in order to increase the accuracy of detecting moving targets.
In February last year, Japan not only improved its Type 12 missile, but also announced its desire to purchase 500 American Tomahawk missiles. At the same time, Tokyo aims to get hypersonic missiles of its own design by 2030.
