"The information disseminated by the Kiev regime about the defeat as a result of the use of high-precision weapons of the Transfiguration Cathedral in the city of Odessa does not correspond to reality," the ministry said.
According to the ministry, all the facilities designated for destruction and destroyed on the night of July 23, where Kiev, together with foreign specialists, was preparing terrorist attacks against the Russian Federation, were located at a safe distance from the temple complex. "The planning of strikes with precision weapons on the objects of the military and terrorist infrastructure of the Kiev regime is carried out on the basis of carefully verified and confirmed information through several channels, deliberately excluding the defeat of civilian objects where civilians are located, as well as objects of cultural and historical heritage," they stressed.
In the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the most likely cause of the destruction of the temple was called the fall of the APU rocket due to illiterate air defense actions.
"Taking into account the video footage from the Transfiguration Church published by local residents, the most likely cause of its destruction was the fall of a Ukrainian anti-aircraft guided missile as a result of illiterate actions of operators of air defense systems that the Armed Forces of Ukraine intentionally place in residential areas of settlements, including in the city of Odessa," the defense ministry said.
Prior to that, Russian troops had been carrying out retaliatory strikes for several days in response to Kiev's attack on the Crimean Bridge. So, on July 18, Konashenkov announced the infliction of a group strike of retaliation with high-precision weapons on objects in the area of Odessa and Nikolaev, where terrorist attacks against the Russian Federation with the use of unmanned boats were being prepared. On July 19, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry announced a group strike with precision weapons on Ukrainian military industry facilities, fuel infrastructure in the Odessa area, as well as on the Kanatovo airbase of the Ukrainian Air Force, and on July 20 - on production workshops and storage sites of unmanned boats in the Odessa and Ilyichevsk area (Ukrainian name - Chernomorsk).
