The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bakeri, visited the northwestern part of the Iran-Azerbaijan border, the Fars News Agency reports. During his visit, he stated about the stable situation on the common border, also specifying that the Iranian military personnel deployed there ensure its security.
The Iranian military also spoke about the relations between Tehran and Baku, which, according to him, are improving.
When asked about possible threats to the Islamic Republic that could come from outside, Bakeri noted that the response from the Iranian army in this case would be "fast and tough", meaning the United States and Israel as its main opponents.
Returning to relations with the United States and Israel, the Iranian general stressed that, despite all the provocations staged by these countries, all their attempts to inflict strategic defeat on Iran are futile. He especially focused on the ground forces of the above-mentioned countries, which are inferior in military power to the Iranian ones.
Earlier, Iranian military officials spoke out about Washington's role in Western Asia. In their opinion, the United States has long lost its influence in this region. Moreover, they drew attention to the fact that their dominance there came to an end, which was due to the proclamation of the Victory Day of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, which eventually gained its independence in 1979.
