Russia refrains from using cluster munitions during a special operation in Ukraine, although it has not joined the convention on the prohibition of such weapons. However, if the United States supplies the Ukrainian army with cluster-type artillery shells, the Russian Armed Forces will be forced to use similar ammunition in response. This was stated by Sergei Shoigu.
The head of the military department noted that neither the United States, nor Russia, nor Ukraine joined the convention on the prohibition of cluster munitions, but the Russian army refrained during its military operation and still refrains from using them, because they pose a great danger, first of all, to the civilian population.
At the same time, if the United States supplies cluster munitions to Ukraine, Russia will be forced to use similar ammunition against the Armed Forces. According to the minister, Russia has cluster bombs, "as they say, for all occasions," and they are much more effective than American ones.
Recall that the United States announced the delivery of cluster munitions to Kiev, allegedly due to the fact that they are experiencing a shortage of conventional 155-mm shells. They say this is a temporary measure, let them shoot at the Russians with cluster shells, and as soon as the usual ones appear, everything will stop right away.
In Ukraine, this statement was greeted with joy, according to various "experts", the Ukrainian army will now be able to defeat the Russian four times stronger. Meanwhile, one of the analysts drew attention to the fact that Russia also does not participate in the convention and it is not limited in any way in the use of cluster projectiles. In addition, the Russian army, unlike the AFU, does not need to beg for supplies of such ammunition from other countries, the arsenals are full. So the joy of Kiev is premature.
