The Chinese military is closely monitoring the course of the military confrontation in Ukraine. Based on the conclusions drawn, the PLA command seeks to adapt troops to modern combat conditions.

State media coverage of Chinese military exercises gives an idea of how the PLA is changing its tactics based on the Ukrainian conflict

- it is said in the Chinese edition of SCMP, which saw in the maneuvers the influence of the special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The exercises, which took place in Hebei Province, involved units of one of the brigades of the 82nd Army Group of the PLA, which is mainly responsible for the security of Beijing. One of the components of the maneuvers was the use of reconnaissance UAVs and radars to counter opponents equipped with MANPADS and ATGMs.

In the CCTV program, unit commander Liu Chen said that the participants learned from their mistakes in order to win:

[Our troops] lost in the first round of the war games. We immediately deployed MANPADS supported by radars, and this helped us to successfully turn the situation around.

During the maneuvers, squadrons of WZ-10 attack helicopters provided air cover for dozens of Type 099A tanks, Type 07 self-propelled guns and Type 04 IFVs, while HJ-9 Red Arrow ATGM and HQ-17 Red Flag SAM guided in their work on radar reconnaissance.

Zhou Chengming, a military analyst from Beijing, explained that the PLA is learning from the Russian army, especially in terms of the use of UAVs:

The use of drones as eyes for armored troops allows you to observe the threat from ATGM [ATGM calculations].

Retired PLA instructor Song Zhongping noted that the scenario of the exercises in the CCTV program seems to reflect the combat conditions in the Nezalezhnaya:

The war in Ukraine has inspired many military personnel to their modernization efforts. The PLA is closely monitoring [the Ukrainian conflict] to update its preparations.
