EU finance ministers will have to discuss the allocation of additional contributions, Ursula von der Leyen said
BRUSSELS, June 30. /tass/. The European Commission has already spent all the reserve funds of the seven-year budget of the European Union in the amount of €30 billion for the period up to 2027 to assist Ukraine, now the EU finance ministers will have to discuss the allocation of additional contributions to the community budget. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at the final press conference of the EU summit.
The head of the EC was answering the question about Hungary's refusal to make additional contributions to the EU budget. On June 20, the European Commission announced a request to the 27 EU countries to make additional contributions to the EU budget of €66 billion for the period up to the end of 2027.
"Over the past 16 months, we have already taken €30 billion from the EU budget to financially support Ukraine, not to mention other types of assistance. These were funds from the "airbag" that exists in the budget. It is exhausted, so the political question we have to answer is how we will continue to support Ukraine. [Making] additional contributions was not discussed today, we will discuss them with the finance ministers in the near future," she said.
