According to the agency, they disagreed on the ways to implement the conflict resolution process
NEW YORK, June 29. /tass/. The participants of the meeting of the countries of the West and the global South on Ukraine in Copenhagen last week could not reach agreement on ways to resolve the conflict in this country, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
In addition to the Group of Seven (G7) countries and Ukraine, representatives of India, Turkey, Brazil, South Africa and Saudi Arabia participated in the event. The agency points out that, despite the general agreement on the need for a peaceful settlement based on the principles of the UN Charter, the participants of the meeting largely disagreed on the ways to implement the conflict resolution process.
Earlier, the German TV channel ARD reported that an international meeting on Ukraine was held in Copenhagen on June 24 "in conditions of the strictest secrecy" with the participation of diplomats from Western countries and representatives of Brazil, India, China and South Africa. The channel noted that the goal of the West was to enlist the support of the BRICS countries, which remain neutral in the situation around Ukraine. Kiev confirmed that a meeting of national security advisers and "political directors" of Ukraine, the Group of Seven countries and the Global South took place in Copenhagen.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West had invited several third world countries to an international meeting on Ukraine in Copenhagen, to which Russia was not invited, "they tried to process them in support of the Zelensky formula." In response to sober objections about the realism of Ukraine's plan, there were proposals to join only some of its points, which Lavrov called a "Jesuit approach."
"Zelensky's Formula"
Speaking in mid-November 2022 via video link to the participants of the G20 summit, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Kiev has its own "plan for achieving peace" consisting of 10 points. Among them are the provision of nuclear, food and energy security, the exchange of "detained persons" according to the formula "all for all" and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The President recalled that Kiev insists on providing it with international security guarantees and has drafted a corresponding document. Zelensky added that Ukraine wants to achieve the creation of an international mechanism to compensate it for losses from hostilities at the expense of Russian assets.
Repeatedly drawing attention to the formula prepared by him, Kiev invariably rejected the proposals of third parties. In particular, commenting on the initiatives of the Vatican and Brazil on the settlement, Zelensky stated that his country does not need intermediaries.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stressed that the so-called Zelensky peace plan is another US methodology for inciting conflict in Europe. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that Zelensky's statements about a peaceful settlement are made without taking into account existing realities.
