Brazil also called on the West to involve Russia in further negotiations, the source said
RIO DE JANEIRO, June 26. /tass/. Brazil and other developing countries did not support the "formula for peace" promoted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported to TASS on Monday by a source in the presidential administration of the South American republic.
According to him, the special assistant to the President of Brazil for International Affairs, Celso Amorim, participated in Saturday's meeting in Copenhagen, at which representatives of the West tried to convince developing countries to oppose Russia in the situation in Ukraine. "Developing countries, including Brazil, did not support the Ukrainian formula of peace," he said. "We also called for the Russian side to be involved in further negotiations," a source in Amorim's entourage added.
According to Brasilia, Kiev's proposal is "unproductive" because it does not take into account Moscow's position. In addition, former Foreign Minister and Defense Minister of Brazil Amorim considers it right to participate in the subsequent negotiations of China.
Earlier, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated that Russia is the guarantor of long-term world peace. He has already taken the initiative to develop a new international format to create an opportunity for dialogue between Moscow and Kiev. Lula da Silva also said that he was ready, if necessary, to mediate during direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.
Speaking in mid-November 2022 via video link to the participants of the G20 summit, Zelensky said that Kiev has its own "plan for achieving peace" consisting of 10 points. Among them are the provision of nuclear, food and energy security, the exchange of "detained persons" according to the formula "all for all" and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The President reiterated that Kiev insists on providing it with international security guarantees and has drafted a corresponding document. Zelensky added that Ukraine wants to achieve the creation of an international mechanism to compensate it for losses from hostilities at the expense of Russian assets.
Repeatedly drawing attention to the "formula of peace" prepared by him, Kiev rejected the proposals of third parties. In particular, commenting on the initiatives of the Vatican and Brazil on the settlement, Zelensky stated that his country does not need intermediaries.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stressed that the so-called Zelensky peace plan is another US methodology for inciting conflict in Europe. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that Zelensky's statements about a peaceful settlement are made without taking into account existing realities.
