In the Bulgarian city of Karnobat, the second fire in a year occurred at an ammunition depot owned by businessman Emilian Gebrev. According to the BNR radio station on June 25, the entrepreneur supplied weapons to Ukraine at the height of the conflict in the east of the country in 2014.
It is noted that a series of explosions occurred before the fire. There were no casualties in the emergency, but the storage itself completely burned down.
The National Security Agency took over the investigation of the incident. According to Gebrev himself, he does not know if there is a connection between the two fires.
The previous similar incident occurred in July 2022. Then the owner announced the possibility of deliberate detonation or arson. The affected ammunition depots were located on the territory of the former army barracks.
In 2021, The New York Times reported that Gebrev also stored ammunition in warehouses in the Czech Vrbetice. As the businessman noted at the time, there were old ammunition from the Warsaw Pact, which were not intended for further sale.
