The head of the EU Foreign Policy Service, Josep Borrel, believes that "now more than ever it is important to expand" this assistance
LUXEMBOURG, June 26. /tass/. The EU Foreign Affairs Council on Monday will approve the expansion of European military assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the EU Foreign Policy Service, Josep Borrel, upon arrival at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the community.
"Today, the council will approve an increase in our military assistance to Ukraine - an additional €3.5 billion," he said.
Borrel also made the statement that "now more than ever it is important to expand" this assistance, because, in his opinion, "what happened this weekend [in Russia] is destroying the Russian government and affecting its political system."
We are not talking about a one-time allocation of aid, but about increasing funding for the European Peace Fund, from which the European Union allocates money for arms supplies to Ukraine in tranches of € 500 million every few months.
Borrel also gave the first assessment of the events that took place in Russia over the weekend, calling the Wagner group "a monster that bites its master." He expressed hope that these events would "undermine Russia's military might." At the same time, Borrel recalled that even if there is political instability in Russia, it is "not a very good thing for the West, since Russia is a nuclear power."
