Washington. June 11. INTERFAX - The White House said that China has been using a base in Cuba to collect intelligence about the United States since at least 2019, The Wall Street Journal newspaper wrote on Sunday, citing an official from the administration of the American president.
According to the newspaper's source, the previous publication of the publication on this topic, which said that China could place an electronic tracking base in Cuba, is not accurate. A source told The Wall Street Journal that "this problem is not new."
"This is an ongoing problem, not a new one," he told the newspaper.
A source in the White House said that the Biden administration was informed about China's efforts to expand its military and intelligence collection network, including projects in the Atlantic Ocean, Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region, back in January 2021, when Joe Biden headed USA.
"It's all documented in intelligence documents," the source added, noting that data on the base in Cuba is also there.
In addition, the source noted that the United States has taken diplomatic and other steps to "slow down" these efforts of China - both in Cuba and in projects in other parts of the world.
