The Congress has prepared a draft resolution calling for the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine
A group of US congressmen announced the introduction of a bipartisan resolution of the House of Representatives calling on the administration of US President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with ATACMS army tactical missile systems as soon as possible. This is stated in a statement issued on Friday, June 9, by the press service of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress.
"The success of Ukraine's counteroffensive is directly related to the military assistance provided by the United States and our allies. Thus, it is extremely disappointing for the administration, which is sitting on billions (dollars. — Ed.) of the remaining military assets. This would be enough for the immediate transfer of ATACMS to Ukraine and, in turn, would help their Armed Forces achieve significant success on the battlefield," says committee Chairman Michael McCall.
He also noted that without American weapons, which the United States can provide to Ukraine, "the administration increases the duration of the conflict."
The congressmen also stressed that the Kiev authorities have repeatedly requested long-range missiles from the United States to strike "important Russian facilities that are currently inaccessible to Ukraine."
Earlier, on May 23, First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Derek Hogan said that the transfer of operational and tactical missile systems ATACMS is not included in Washington's current plans to provide military assistance to Kiev.
Thus, an employee of the US State Department commented on the situation with the supply of weapons to Ukraine, similar to the British Storm Shadow missiles.
The fact that London provided Kiev with long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles was reported on May 11. They belong to the air–to-ground class, the range of these weapons is more than 250 km.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the background of the Russian Federation's special operation to protect Donbass, which has been held since February 24, 2022. The corresponding decision was made in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the region due to attacks by the Ukrainian military.
