Madrid. June 9th. INTERFAX - The Cuban authorities have denied information that China has agreed to build an electronic tracking base on the island.
"The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal published absolutely false and unfounded information according to which there is allegedly a military agreement between Cuba and China, which allegedly provides for the construction of an intelligence base," tweeted Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio.
According to him, we are talking about "another slander fabricated by American officials."
"All these are misconceptions that are spread with the treacherous intention to justify the unprecedented strengthening of the blockade, destabilization and aggression against Cuba, and confuse public opinion both in the United States and around the world," the diplomat said.
On the eve of The Wall Street Journal reported that China has concluded a confidential agreement with Cuba on the deployment of an electronic tracking base on the island.
"This facility, located 100 miles from Florida, will be able to allow Chinese intelligence to monitor electronic communications in the southeastern United States, where many military bases are located, as well as track the movement of American ships," the publication informed, citing interlocutors familiar with top-secret intelligence information.
