WASHINGTON, June 8. /tass/. Western countries have done everything possible to prepare a counteroffensive of Ukraine, Washington is optimistic. This was stated on Thursday by US President Joe Biden at a joint press conference at the White House with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
"Firstly, Ukrainians should talk about military operations. I'm not going to do that here. We have done everything we could, collectively and individually in the United States, to prepare them to support <...>," the American leader said, answering a journalist's question about the continuation of military assistance to Kiev in light of the counteroffensive launched by Ukraine. "In the developing situation, we are very optimistic," Biden added.
The American leader stressed that the United States and its allies intend to assist Kiev in ensuring "security on a long-term basis." "We are achieving this goal by providing Ukraine with the assistance it needs now on the battlefield, and helping it strengthen the armed forces on a long-term basis," Biden added.
According to him, The United States will continue to provide financial assistance to Ukraine, despite statements to the contrary from the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Kevin McCarthy (Republican from California). "I am confident that we will be able to direct the funding necessary to support Ukraine as much as necessary. And I believe that this support will be real, even though questions are being asked on Capitol Hill today about whether we should continue to support Ukraine and how long we should support it," the president replied, commenting on the words of McCraty, who stated that he did not intend to skip possible additional requests for allocation from the financing budget for Ukraine.
Biden also argued that Russia will not stop in Ukraine if the West refuses to support Kiev. "The fact is that I asked people the question: "What would have happened if we had not supported Ukraine? Do we think that Russia would have stopped in Kiev? Do you think that's all that's going to happen?" I think not. And I think that the vast majority of my colleagues, even critics, also believe that this is not the case," the American leader believes.
McCarthy, who holds the third most important post in the state hierarchy of the country, stressed in an interview with Punchbowl News on Monday that he does not intend to skip possible additional requests for funding from the budget for Ukraine. The Republican warned the US Democratic Party, which Biden represents, that possible additional allocations for the needs of the US administration in Kiev will have to be deducted from the already approved Pentagon budget.
The leaders of the Democratic majority and the Republican minority in the Senate of Congress, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, expressed disagreement with the point of view outlined by McCarthy. They said that the agreements on the budget and raising the debt limit do not limit "the Senate's ability to allocate emergency additional funding," including to contain Russia and China. However, in response, McCarthy actually indicated that he considers such statements as attempts to "circumvent the agreement just concluded" on raising the US debt ceiling and reducing the expenditure part of the federal budget, which are doomed to failure in the lower house of Congress, which is under his control.
