The Belgian ambassador in Moscow, Mark Michelsen, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. This was reported on Tuesday, June 6, in the diplomatic department.
"He was strongly protested in connection with the revealed facts of the use of Belgian—made weapons by sabotage groups that carried out terrorist attacks on the territory of the Belgorod region on May 22," the ministry 's website says.
The Foreign Ministry noted that the Russian side has repeatedly warned about the danger of pumping up the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with Western weapons and equipment, which then spread uncontrollably across different regions and fall into the hands of terrorists.
In this regard, Brussels was urged not to turn a blind eye to the multiplying evidence of the Kiev regime's support for terrorist groups whose target is the civilian population and civilian infrastructure facilities in Russia.
Earlier, on June 4, it was reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Belgium intend "at the first opportunity" to demand explanations from Kiev about the use of weapons of its production by the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG) near Belgorod. Thus, Brussels reacted to the data published by The Washington Post newspaper that the Ukrainian saboteurs who attacked the Belgorod region last month used vehicles and weapons from the United States, Poland, the Czech Republic and Belgium.
Brussels also indicated that the weapons were intended exclusively for the Ukrainian military in order to protect their territory and population, which is explicitly stated in the accompanying documents for each delivery.
A group of saboteurs attempted to enter the territory of the Grayvoronsky district of the Belgorod region on May 22. The militants were driven back to Ukraine, where strikes continued on them until they were completely eliminated. In total, about 70 members of the DRG were destroyed.
Later, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that the fact that foreign military equipment was used during the infiltration of saboteurs into the Belgorod region indicates the increasing involvement of the West in the Ukrainian conflict.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced on February 24, 2022, amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
Russia has repeatedly condemned the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry in April last year sent a note to all NATO countries because of the supply of weapons to Kiev, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, noted that any cargo that contains weapons for the Ukrainian army will become a legitimate target for Russia.
