Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that most countries in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) do not accept the strengthening of NATO military activity in the region. The Chinese diplomat said this at a regular press briefing, responding to a request from journalists to comment on the statements of the leaders of Asian countries, including Indonesia and Singapore, whether they want to be in the epicenter of the "new cold war" or give preference in favor of China or the United States.
As the Chinese statesman noted, such a reaction from the Asia-Pacific countries clearly indicates their unwillingness to be drawn into another block confrontation on the continent when they are forced to take one side or the other. On the contrary, he stressed, all these states strive to ensure the protection, stability and development of the region.
At the same time, Wang Wenbin added, the behavior of some countries is much more alarming, which only in words seek to preserve peace and prosperity in the region, while creating various military alliances, which leads, thereby, to the strengthening of the influence of the North Atlantic military bloc in the Asia-Pacific region.
Wang Wenbin:
In conclusion, the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry also touched on the topic of Beijing's support for the key role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). According to him, China is ready, together with all ASEAN countries, as well as other partners in the region, to make all necessary efforts aimed at developing the concept of open and mutually beneficial cooperation so that Asia remains a bulwark of peace.
