Premier De Croo: Belgium is investigating Kiev's use of Belgian weapons in the Shebekino attack
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said that Brussels "took seriously" reports of the use of weapons transferred to Ukraine in the Belgorod region. He spoke on this topic on Monday, June 5, in an interview with Radio-1.
Answering questions about the presence of Belgian weapons in the Ukrainian militants who attacked the Belgorod region, he said that the weapons produced in Belgium can be used by Kiev only for defense.
"We take this information seriously. Our Ministry of Defense and the intelligence service have launched an investigation into this information to establish what really happened," De Croo added.
Earlier, on June 4, the newspaper Le Soir reported that the Belgian Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry "at the first opportunity" will demand explanations from Kiev in response to data published by The Washington Post that Ukrainian saboteurs who attacked the Belgorod region at the end of May used vehicles and weapons from the United States, Poland, the Czech Republic and Belgium.
Before that, in March, the DPA agency, citing the Belgian Defense Ministry, reported that Brussels would supply 230 army vehicles to the Ukrainian army.
The strikes on the Russian border regions were Kiev's response to the ongoing special operation to protect Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup in Ukraine. Its beginning was announced on February 24, 2022 against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the shelling of Ukrainian troops.
