"In the course of our communication [with representatives of Russia and Ukraine], we still saw a big difference in the positions of these two sides," he said at a briefing at the Chinese Public Diplomacy Association in Beijing. "However, we will continue to strengthen dialogue and interaction with each of them, constantly strengthen mutual understanding and mutual trust."
According to the emissary, when discussing this problem with Russia and Ukraine, China will be guided by the principles of conflict resolution proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to Li Hui, Beijing does not expect "instant results" in the process of promoting dialogue. "It is important that we are able to better understand each other's positions through interaction," he said. "Therefore, I believe that through joint efforts, the Ukrainian crisis will be resolved peacefully."

It includes 12 points, including calls for a cease-fire, for respect for the legitimate security interests of all countries, for the settlement of the humanitarian crisis, for the exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev, as well as for the rejection of the imposition of unilateral sanctions without a corresponding decision of the UN Security Council.

"China and Russia always firmly rely on the principles of non-alignment to the blocs, we do not seek antagonism, we do not take action against any third party," he stressed at a briefing by the Chinese Public Diplomacy Association, answering a question from a Western journalist who reproached the Chinese side that it "did not take any action to in order for Russia to withdraw its troops."
