The US Secretary of State considers the cease-fire and the freezing of hostilities in the conflict unacceptable
STOCKHOLM, June 2. /tass/. The ceasefire in Ukraine and the freezing of hostilities will not lead to the conclusion of a "lasting and just peace", but only to a "Potemkin peace". This assessment was made on Friday by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken
"A ceasefire that simply freezes the existing lines and will allow [Russian President Vladimir] For Putin to strengthen control over the territories he occupied, and then to rest, rearm and attack again, is not a just and lasting peace. This is the Potemkin world. He will legitimize Russia's seizure of territory, reward the aggressor and punish the victim," he said, speaking at an event organized by the Finnish Institute of International Relations in the Helsinki City Hall.
According to the US Secretary of State, when Russia "wants to work on establishing a real peace," the United States, together with its allies and Ukraine, "will give an answer."
"Together with Ukraine, allies and partners, we will be ready for a broader discussion on European security, within which stability and transparency will be promoted and the likelihood of conflict will decrease," the diplomat said.
Blinken also stressed that in the coming weeks and months, the United States will work together with allies and all parties that support the idea of a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.
"A just and lasting peace should support the provisions of the UN Charter, support the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. <...> A just and lasting peace should support the restoration of Ukraine, and Russia should pay its share. <...>. A just and lasting peace can open the way for the easing of sanctions, in connection with specific actions, especially - the withdrawal of troops. A just and lasting peace must end Russia's aggressive war," he argued.
