CHISINAU, June 1. /tass/. At the summit in Chisinau, the political community discussed the aggravation in the north of Kosovo and Metohija as actively as the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated on Thursday by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the sidelines of the summit of the European Political Community.
"Unfortunately or fortunately, [depending on] how you look at it, the topic of Kosovo has become the main topic in Ukraine together, or the main topic of the summit and the political community here," Vucic said.
The situation in the Serbian municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija escalated on May 26, when special forces of the Kosovo police occupied administrative buildings in the municipalities of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic. The security forces tried to ensure the entry into office of the heads of municipalities who won the elections, which were boycotted by the Serbian population. On May 29, the NATO Forces for Kosovo (KFOR) cordoned off the administration buildings, where protests by local residents began, which later escalated into clashes.
As Vucic said earlier, 52 Serbs turned to the Kosovska Mitrovica hospital for help, 3 of them were seriously injured. The NATO mission announced more than 40 wounded soldiers serving the Italian and Hungarian contingents of KFOR. Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic stressed on Monday that the country's army has been put on high alert due to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and its units are located along the administrative line with the autonomous Serbian territory.
