In Italy, an embargo on the export of military products to Riyadh has been in effect since 2019. Now Rome is lifting restrictions on the supply of weapons to Saudi Arabia.
This is stated in the communique following the meeting of the Italian government chaired by Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni.
The document states that this decision was made in accordance with the defense and foreign policy of Italy.
Embargoes on the export of lethal weapons to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) were imposed by the Italian Council of Ministers to prevent its use in the Yemeni conflict.

At the moment, according to the Italian authorities, the intensity of military operations in Yemen has been significantly reduced and, accordingly, the risk of using Italian bombs and missiles against civilians has decreased.
Rome also acknowledged that the KSA supported the UN mediation activities in the settlement of the Yemeni conflict, as well as actively participated in the provision of humanitarian and economic assistance.
Earlier, in April of this year, the Italian government announced the lifting of restrictions on the supply of weapons to the UAE. This step was also taken in connection with the refusal of this Arab state to participate in military operations on the territory of Yemen.
