Zócalo newspaper: a cartel militant in Mexico noticed Javelin supplied to Kiev by the USA
A video is being distributed in Mexican social networks showing a militant of the local "Gulf Cartel" carrying an American FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile system (ATGM) on his shoulder, which have recently been massively supplied to Kiev. This is reported by the newspaper Zócalo on May 31.
In the video, a man in a bulletproof vest with the Los Escorpiones logo carries an AK-47 assault rifle and an American Javelin. The publication notes that the last time such an ATGM was seen in the hands of Mexican bandits in 2020, when it was used in the confrontation between two cartels.
The US government, after an investigation, then stated that weapons intended exclusively for military use fell into the hands of criminals through a former congressman from Honduras.
After Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass, Washington supplied Kiev with tens of thousands of Javelin complexes as military aid, which almost immediately appeared on the black market of weapons.
So, at the end of 2022, the acting head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said that foreign weapons supplied to Ukraine, including Javelin complexes, are sold on the black market. According to him, weapons in large quantities are being moved to African countries, and where they are going next can only be assumed, Pushilin pointed out then.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted in October that the monthly contraband turnover of weapons that end up on the black markets reaches $ 1 billion.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine after the start of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to hold it was announced on February 24, 2022 against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
