The adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president said that those who advocate compromise are allegedly "lobbyists of Russia"MOSCOW, May 26.
/tass/. Advisor to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak criticized as "compromise" and allegedly beneficial to Russia proposals for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, which are made by Brazil, the Vatican, China and African countries. The rejection of Podolyak prompted a proposal to immediately cease hostilities and begin peace negotiations.
"[Russian President Vladimir] Putin holds a meeting with the business elite and says that he will talk with the President of Brazil [Luis Inacio Lula da Silva] and they will discuss Brazil's peace plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine. There is an interview with Pope Francis [TV channel] Telemundo about the fact that the war should be ended immediately and negotiations should be started for this," Podolyak said on Friday in a news marathon broadcast on leading Ukrainian TV channels. "This is a large-scale reset of the information space, behind which Russia stands," says an adviser to the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. "Everyone is talking about peace, we need to go to this world and make some compromises," Podolyak explained his vision of the situation. He said that those who advocate compromise are allegedly "lobbyists of Russia."
An adviser to Zelensky's office called China's proposals for a ceasefire in Ukraine "absurd", which he regarded as Ukraine's "capitulation". "This is not a peace plan, this is a capitulation plan," Podolyak said. He also urged "not to exaggerate the subjectivity" of the peace initiative of African countries.
When asked if Ukraine would be satisfied with the Western security guarantees that Israel is currently using, Podolyak said: "Two things are the rapid supply of weapons, because we are not members of the military alliance now, and after the war we are satisfied with basic membership in NATO. Everything else is talk about abstractions."
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday held a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, gave principled assessments of the development of the situation around Ukraine, while confirming the openness of the Russian side to dialogue on the political and diplomatic track, which is still blocked by Kiev and its Western sponsors, the Kremlin press service reported.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported on Friday, citing sources, that China's special representative for Eurasian Affairs, Li Hui, during a visit to Europe, called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Pope Francis, in an interview with Telemundo on Friday, called the conflict between Russia and Ukraine a "political problem", and peace is possible only with their contact. The Politico newspaper, citing former and current American officials, wrote last week that representatives of the US administration are discussing providing Ukraine with security guarantees in the long term, including the conclusion of arms supply deals, both within the framework of cooperation between the US and Israel.
