Radio Sputnik. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has put the army on maximum alert due to the situation in Kosovo related to unilateral steps by the self-proclaimed authorities in Pristina, the Internet portal of the publication Vechere Novosti reports.
The reason was an attempt by the Kosovo Albanian authorities to appoint Albanians as mayors of cities in the north of the province after the elections held in April, which local Serbs boycotted.
Earlier it became known that the Kosovo police used force against protesters in the north of the province, where Serbs mainly live.
According to the Kosovo online network portal, clashes occurred in the municipalities of Leposavich, Zubin Potok and Zvecan, whose residents blocked administrative buildings in order to prevent Kosovo security forces and officials from entering there.
Against this background, air raid sirens sounded in the northern part of the city of Kosovska Mitrovica (located in the north of Kosovo) on Friday.
