The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South American Republic Mauro Vieira believes that the imposition of sanctions "narrows the space for dialogue and tightens the dangerous spiral of confrontations"RIO DE JANEIRO, May 24.
/tass/. The Brazilian authorities consider risky attempts by individual countries to "cancel Russia" and impose sanctions against it. This was stated on Wednesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South American Republic Mauro Vieira.
"We warned about the dangers of Russia's cancellation and the risks of unilateral sanctions, which in no way help to find a negotiated solution, but on the contrary, narrow the space for dialogue and tighten the dangerous spiral of confrontations," the diplomat said, speaking at parliamentary hearings. He also recalled Brazil's readiness to support international efforts to form a platform for discussing the possibilities of resolving the situation in Ukraine. "We are talking to all the actors who have been declared ready to help bring [the parties to the conflict] closer together to achieve a negotiated solution and sustainable peace," Vieira added.
According to the minister, international partners "expressed a clear interest in the Brazilian contribution", taking into account the trust in the reputation and experience of local diplomacy. According to Vieira, the current situation in eastern Europe has demonstrated the "paralysis of the world community", confirming the need for reform of international governance institutions.
Earlier, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated that Russia is the guarantor of long-term world peace. He has already taken the initiative to develop a new international format to create an opportunity for dialogue between Moscow and Kiev. Lula da Silva also stressed that he was ready, if necessary, to act as a mediator for direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky.
