The head of the Foreign Policy Service of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrel, welcomed the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine, referring to British missiles. He also said on Saturday, May 13, in an interview with journalists after the meeting of the foreign Ministers of the EU countries with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba that they "did not discuss the start of negotiations on Ukraine's admission to the EU."
"Ukraine needs a weapon that can fire at such a (large. - Ed.) distance," the head of the foreign policy service stressed.
CNN reported on the supply of long-range cruise missiles to Kiev on May 11, citing Western high-ranking officials. At the same time, the UK received an assurance from Ukraine that these missiles would not be used to hit targets on the territory of Russia. Meanwhile, the UK Ministry of Defense confirmed the transfer of Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Borrel informed that the total EU assistance to Ukraine amounted to €16 billion. He also said that Ukraine will cease to exist as an independent state without the military assistance of the West. In addition, the security of Europe itself will decrease.
On the same day, Bloomberg wrote that the West provided more than 200 tanks and 300 armored vehicles for the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The article noted that Ukraine needs more than 30 billion arsenal to strike back.
Western states have increased military and financial support for Ukraine after the start of a special military operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass. The decision to hold it was announced on February 24 last year in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the LPR and DPR due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
