The volume of commitments for budgetary and economic support of Ukraine from the Group of Seven (G7) and their partners for the period from 2023 to the beginning of 2024 amounted to $44 billion. This is stated in a joint statement adopted on Saturday following a meeting of finance ministers and heads of the Central Bank of the Group of Seven held in Niigata.
"Together with the international community, we have increased our commitments on budgetary and economic support for Ukraine for 2023 and the beginning of 2024 to $44 billion, which allowed us to approve the International Monetary Fund program for Ukraine in the amount of more than $15.6 billion for a four-year period," the document says.
"This support gives Ukraine confidence and allows its authorities to ensure the functioning of the government, continue providing basic services, repair damaged infrastructure and stabilize the economy," the ministers and heads of the Central Banks of the "seven" stated.
Japan is chairing the G7 in 2023. To date, the Japanese side has held some ministerial meetings of the "seven", including foreign ministers and ministers of digitalization and technology.
