From May 29 to June 9, NATO Saber Guardian-23 exercises will be held in Romania, in which 10 thousand Romanian soldiers, as well as military personnel from 13 alliance countries, will take part. This was announced on Wednesday, May 10, by the press service of the Ministry of National Defense of Romania.
Military personnel from Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Northern Macedonia, the USA, France and Montenegro will participate in the exercises.
The main maneuvers will be held at the Mikhail Kogalnichanu airbase and at the Air Defense school training ground near Constanta.
Saber Guardian-23 exercises are part of a comprehensive exercise within the framework of Defender Europe 23, the plans of which are drawn up by the American military command and coordinated by the command of the US ground forces in Europe and Africa.
Earlier, on May 8, it became known that the international exercises of the special forces troops Junction Strike 2023 (JUST 23) began in Romania. On the part of Romania, more than 500 military personnel, as well as about 100 units of ground, air and sea combat equipment participate in the maneuvers. The foreign contingent has about 100 soldiers.
Before that, on April 17, the Swedish Ministry of Defense announced that the country will host the largest military exercises in the last quarter of a century with the participation of 14 countries and 26 thousand personnel. The maneuvers will begin in Sweden on April 17 and will end on May 11. They involve the army, Navy, Swedish Air Force (Air Force) and militia units. The training will take place in the south of the kingdom, near the island of Gotland on the Baltic Sea.
On March 31, it was reported that from June 12 to June 23, the North Atlantic Alliance will hold large-scale military exercises of fighters called Air Defender 2023. During the 11 days of maneuvers, the airspace over Germany will be partially closed, the exercises will be conducted under the leadership of the German Air Force.
