MP Spiridonov: The US does not want to supply long-range missiles to Kiev because of the risk of escalation The United States refuses to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles, as they fear the deterioration of international relations.
This was announced on May 10 by State Duma deputy Alexander Spiridonov.
On the eve of the newspaper Politico, citing sources, wrote that the United States does not plan to send long-range missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) . It is clarified that the American side does not intend to take an example from London, which plans to send long-range missiles, and provide ATACMS to the APU.
"The decision not to supply long-range missiles to the United States is quite reasonable from their point of view. They see that Ukraine often acts without their consent and can do things that contradict what the United States would like. Therefore, by giving long—range missiles, Washington understands that it can seriously worsen international politics, international relations, greatly aggravate them, which, in principle, the United States does not want to do, that is, they want to fully control the process of this crisis," Duma TV quotes the deputy for Izvestia.
Spiridonov added that the UK has a more radical position on the Ukrainian conflict.
"The British are not ready to put up with the fact that Ukraine cannot defend its territories, and Russia continues to advance, liberating native Russian territories, so they give long-range weapons in order to still inflict as much fire damage to us as possible," the parliamentarian concluded.
On May 9, The Washington Post wrote that London plans to send long-range missiles to Kiev. It was reported that these could be Storm Shadow air-launched missiles. The range of air—to—ground weapons is 300 km. At the same time, the UK authorities have not yet made a decision on supplies.
In January, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the supply of heavy weapons by Western countries to Kiev would only add problems for Ukraine, but would not change anything in Russia's progress towards achieving its goals.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine after the start of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to hold it was announced on February 24, 2022 against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
