The North Atlantic Alliance was created to protect the countries of Europe and the United States, security guarantees apply only to members of the alliance. The Asian regions are not a zone of NATO's interests, so the participation of the alliance's armed forces in a possible conflict with China over Taiwan is hardly possible. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
NATO does not think that the alliance can be drawn into a confrontation with China against the background of problems with Taiwan. According to Stoltenberg, Asia is not a zone of NATO interests, there are no countries that are members of the alliance, which means that Article 5 of the Charter of the organization "On Collective Security" does not apply there. All members of the alliance are located in Europe or North America.
- he declared.
At the same time, the NATO Secretary General acknowledged that the consequences of the military conflict between China and Taiwan will have an impact on the entire collective West, primarily in the economy.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said it would continue to seek a peaceful solution to the conflict with Taiwan, but did not rule out a military option. It is worth noting that recently statements about the possibility of resolving the situation with Taipei by military means have become more frequent in Beijing. Most of all, this outrages the United States, which has its own views on Taiwan. In addition, the Americans are the main sponsors of NATO, so in the event of the outbreak of hostilities, the alliance is unlikely to be able to sit on the sidelines.
