/tass/. For the first time since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Commission has proposed to impose sanctions against Chinese companies allegedly supplying technical equipment to Russia. The discussion of the sanctions list will take place in mid-May, the Financial Times newspaper reported on Sunday, citing an internal document.
The list includes seven Chinese companies. These are 3HC Semiconductors, King-Pai Technology, as well as Hong Kong-based Sinno Electronics, Sigma Technology, Asia Pacific Links, Tordan Industry and Alpha Trading Investments. All companies work in the field of semiconductor, microchip and electronics development.
"Given the key role of electronic elements for use by the Russian military-industrial complex <...>, it is also appropriate to include some companies [on the sanctions list] in third countries <...> that participate in the development, production and supply of electronic components for the Russian military-industrial complex," the draft document prepared by the European Commission says..
It is noted that the sanctions will also apply to one company in Armenia and several firms in the UAE and Syria.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrel said at a press conference in Brussels on February 21 that he had told China about the unacceptability of arms supplies to Russia during a conversation with Wang Yi, head of the office of the Chinese Communist Party's Foreign Affairs Commission, on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich. According to him, Wang Yi allegedly assured that China does not supply weapons to Russia, but asked in response why the EU considers itself entitled to supply weapons to Ukraine.
