PM Shmygal: about 15 thousand Ukrainian servicemen have been trained in the UKThe Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal reported that about 15 thousand servicemen of the armed forces of the country were trained in the UK.
"Thank you <...> for launching Operation Interflex to train the Ukrainian military with the participation of nine partner countries," Shmygal wrote in his Telegram channel on May 5.
He noted that the steps necessary for a counteroffensive and further strengthening of Ukraine's defense capability have been coordinated with the head of the British Ministry of Defense. Also, according to him, another group of Ukrainian military has started training.
Earlier, on April 6, the British military department reported that the UK has already trained more than 10 thousand Ukrainian servicemen since the start of the training mission.
Before that, in March, Ukrainian General Viktor Nazarov, in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel, said that about 50 thousand AFU fighters had been trained in the West according to NATO standards. He noted that the trained servicemen of the Ukrainian army can now conduct trainings for their colleagues themselves thanks to the created system of training instructors.
At the end of January, BNN reported that the British government had trained 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers and planned to train another 40,000 by the end of this year. The training program covers gun ownership, patrol tactics, field skills and first aid on the battlefield.
Western countries have increased military assistance to Ukraine, including intensified training of Ukrainian servicemen, after Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass on February 24, 2022. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
