TSAMTO, April 28. The amount of American ammunition stored in Israel in case the Jewish state finds itself in an emergency situation is being reduced due to the conflict in Ukraine.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by the Israeli portal Israel Hayom with reference to its sources.
These storages are officially designated as US military depots and, as such, enjoy diplomatic immunity in accordance with bilateral agreements with Israel, the newspaper writes. However, the unofficial agreement between Jerusalem and Washington for many decades was that the stored ammunition would be destined for Israel in the event of an emergency if the Jewish state faced a major attack on the scale of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when it faced a combined invasion from Syria and Egypt.
According to Israel Hayom sources, the reason that these munitions are being exported in large quantities is the constant shortage of reserve stocks of Western countries as a result of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. The publication also reports that some of the ammunition in recent months was sent through the port of Ashdod – mostly on Saturdays – so as not to attract media attention.
