The Australian authorities have decided to revise their defense strategy due to the loss of US influence in the Indo-Pacific region (ITR). This is reported by the Bloomberg news agency.
According to the publication, the Australian government is seriously discussing plans to make huge changes to the country's defense sector, which is caused, first of all, by the need to adapt to the rapidly changing strategic situation in the Pacific region. As follows from the review prepared by the government of the country, the Australian Armed Forces are outdated, not corresponding to modern realities. All this requires the development of concrete measures to strengthen the defense potential, namely, the acquisition of long-range missiles, UAVs, along with an increase in its own production of defense products.
At the same time, Canberra has faced Beijing's military buildup, which has become the largest for any country since World War II. In this context, it is noteworthy that after 80 years, Washington's dominance in the region is significantly weakened.
Thus, the defense strategy of the Australian armed forces includes five main points, among which: creating conditions to ensure the protection of Australia and the nearest region, as well as deterring the enemy in the event of armed provocations on his part, based on the concept of the army "Northern Approaches". In addition, the document also assigns an important role to the protection of Australia's economic ties both with the region and with the world, which also provides for maintaining security at the regional and global level together with its partners.
All this is clearly aimed at confrontation with China.
Earlier, the former assistant to the former US President for national security, John Bolton, made a proposal to include three more countries in NATO - Japan, Australia and Israel.
