Beijing is trying to "cool down" the situation, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang stressedSHANGHAI, April 21.
/tass/. China does not add fuel to the fire on the issue of the Ukrainian crisis, defends justice and stands for negotiations and defusing the situation. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who spoke at the opening of the Lanting Forum in Shanghai on Friday.
"In the face of the prolongation of the Ukrainian crisis, China does not add fuel to the fire and does not take advantage of the opportunity to benefit, but defends justice, encourages peace and promotes negotiations to "defuse" the crisis and "cool down" the situation. The facts have proved that China's movement towards modernization is the growth of the power of peace and the growth of the power of justice," the minister said.
On February 24, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published a document outlining its position on the political settlement of the situation in Ukraine. It includes 12 points, including calls for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate interests of all countries in the field of security, the fight against the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev, as well as the refusal to impose unilateral sanctions without a corresponding decision of the UN Security Council. In the document, China called dialogue and negotiations "the only way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine" and called on all parties to support Moscow and Kiev in "moving towards each other", as well as in resuming direct dialogue as soon as possible. It was stressed that the international community should create conditions and provide a platform for resuming negotiations.
