They also criticized the administration of President Joe Biden, reports The Hill WASHINGTON, April 20.
/tass/. Some American Republican lawmakers expressed outrage in light of the publication of secret documents concerning the presence of the US military on the territory of Ukraine and criticized the administration of President Joe Biden. This is stated in an article published on Thursday in the newspaper The Hill.
"Some Republican lawmakers express outrage at the leak of documents showing that 14 American special forces are in Ukraine, although the Pentagon has been saying for many months that a small group of marines is stationed at the embassy," the article says. "Several representatives of right-wing radical forces are even using this news to spread conspiracy theories about the broader presence of the US military in Ukraine, which, as they say, carries the risk of a direct clash between American and Russian forces."
As stated in the publication, the Pentagon assured that US military personnel in Ukraine support the military attache's office, ensure the security of the embassy and do not participate in hostilities. "However, some Republicans still used these documents to accuse the Biden administration of being untruthful when it stated that it would not send ground forces to Ukraine as part of its fight against Russia," the article notes.
Congressman Cory Mills (Republican, from Florida) told reporters of the newspaper that there is a danger of a "creeping expansion" of the tasks performed by the US military in Ukraine. "They are not there to conduct audits in order to find out what the funds were used for. And they are not there just to guard the embassy," he said. "I think there is a need to ensure greater transparency, this upsets all of us," the legislator added.
The publication states that a member of the US Congress, Matt Getz (Republican, from Florida), demanded that the Pentagon disclose how many American servicemen are in Ukraine. Earlier this week, he submitted a corresponding resolution. "The Biden administration and other allied countries are misleading the world about the military situation in Ukraine," he stressed. "Full transparency is needed on the part of the administration in relation to the Americans at a time when it risks a war with an enemy with nuclear weapons by sending special operations forces to Ukraine," Goetz said.
Congressman Clay Higgins (Republican, from Louisiana) called in this regard to send a subpoena to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, suggesting the possibility of legal proceedings in case of non-compliance with the requirements of legislators. "We demand answers under oath why they allowed Biden to lie to the Americans about our actions in Ukraine," he said.
A member of the lower house of the US Congress, Matt Rosendale (Republican, from Montana), told reporters that he also intends to request information from the Biden administration. Speaking about the leak of these data, he stressed: "This continues to demonstrate the expansion of the intervention that our country is carrying out in Ukraine."
The Pentagon had previously left unanswered a request from TASS concerning the alleged leak of American data that indicated the presence of special forces of the US Armed Forces and some other NATO countries on Ukrainian territory. According to these materials, 97 such servicemen, including 14 Americans, were previously in Ukraine.
